The 2026 Annual General Meeting of the Society of Nepalese Students in Korea (SONSIK) was held on September 20 at Mirae Hall, Pukyong National University (PKNU, President Sang-Hoon Bae). Supported by the PKNU Office of International Affairs (Director Jae-Cheol Seo), the event brought together Nirmal Prasad Bhattarai, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Nepal in Korea, SONSIK President Kiran Suwal, and around 100 Nepalese students from across the country. Founded in 2004, SONSIK is an organization of Nepalese students living in Korea and has been actively hosting international seminars, annual events, and other programs. On behalf of Director Seo, Professor Hak-Seon Kim of the Office of International Affairs delivered the welcoming address. He introduced PKNU's plans to support international students, including the launch of two English-track departments in the Global Innovation College in 2027, Tourism and Hospitality Management and Computer Science & AI, as well as the expansion of research-oriented graduate programs as a designated university for the K-STAR visa track. Representatives of the Embassy of Nepal and SONSIK expressed their appreciation to PKNU for hosting the meeting, and many students interested in transferring to or enrolling at PKNU followed up with inquiries. Building on this event, PKNU plans to expand its efforts to attract talented students from Nepal and to support their settlement in the Busan region. |
